HOW MUCH ARE YOU SAFE FROM THIS NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)?
First of all what is it and how does it started spreading?
Coronaviruses are a family of viruses that cause disease in animals. Seven, including the new virus, have made the jump to humans, but most just cause cold-like symptoms.
The source of the coronavirus is believed to be a "wet market" in Wuhan which sold both dead and live animals including fish and birds.
Such markets pose a heightened risk of viruses jumping from animals to humans because hygiene standards are difficult to maintain if live animals are being kept and butchered on site. Typically, they are also densely packed.
The animal source of the latest outbreak has not yet been identified, but the original host is thought to be bats. Bats were not sold at the Wuhan market but may have infected live chickens or other animals sold there.
How long can the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 survive on surfaces?
A recent study found that the COVID-19 coronavirus can survive up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard, and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel. The researchers also found that this virus can hang out as droplets in the air for up to three hours before they fall. But most often they will fall more quickly.

▪ These preventions are the basic ones that most of us are known to.
Here are some important things that we must follow in our day to day life for the prevention of the virus
• Clean / Sanitize your phone's screen and backcover
• Clean your doorknobs or door handles.
• Clean those things that you frequently touch like switches, t.v. remotes etc.
• Try not to go outdoor unless it's very important.
• Keep special care for elderly persons in your house as this virus usually hit people having age above 60 years.
• Don't touch your eyes, nose and mouth. Though it is difficult but try to follow it.
Studies show people touch their faces up to 25 times an hour. Medical experts want us to break that habit as a defense against coronavirus.
We should not panic at this situation.

Not to worry too much about it
We should not panic at this situation.
The virus is found only on those people whose immune system is weak. So, just eat healthy food and stay indoors.
• Aches and pains, sore throat, fever – although they may feel similar to those suffering from their symptoms, the novel coronavirus is not the same as the seasonal flu, experts stressed.
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
- Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
- Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
So, there's no need to buy any expensive masks as the virus is not present in the air. You only need masks when you are taking care of an ill person.
It is only found on surfaces or from an infected person.
Let's look at the current stats of cases around the world.
